Institute without Boundaries in partnership with LACAP (Latin American Canadian Art Projects)

The Institute without Boundaries (IwB) is a nine-month, post-graduate program offered through the School of Design at George Brown College. Central to this work are real projects of public and global significance that are executed by students, faculty and industry experts as part of academic curricula, research initiatives and creative projects.

From 2003 – 2009, IwB focused on the World House project, an initiative that confronts the issue of shelter for coming generations by developing housing systems that operate on the principles of sustainability, universality, technological responsiveness and ecological balance. The faculty and students seek to create advanced housing solutions that are globally responsible and locally appropriate.

Community Partners
The IwB program centres on real design projects with tangible outcomes. Each year, the Institute partners with external organizations, community groups and other schools. This year, IwB will partner with LACAP to develop a project with the City of Lota.

Lota
In 2010-11, the IwB curriculum will enter the second phase of City Systems by introducing a long-term resilience masterplan for the City of Lota, Chile destroyed by an earthquake and tsunami. We are submitting this proposal in order to implement the specific design of a school for the city of Lota.

History
One of the initial steps established by LACAP was to promote Lota as a City that needed international aid. LACAP’s fundraising efforts to help the city enabled to establish a close relationship with the city of Lota and government representatives. As a result, the local Chilean community decided to lobby towards establishing a twinning proposal between the two cities and has been pressuring City Council to support relief efforts for the city of Lota.

On May 17, 2010, the City of Toronto’s Executive Committee recommended to:
1. City Council request the Government of Canada to significantly increase the $2 million set aside for earthquake relief in Chile, and specifically that the Federal Government match the money of private donations to relief efforts;
2. City Council urge the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) to take action as deemed necessary to reach out to counterparts in the Federal Government and Chile to offer technical support for the City of Lota;
3. The City of Toronto consider any formal request from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and Chile for technical partnership assistance for the City of Lota;
4. The City of Toronto assess any formal request from the City of Lota for a structured City Twinning arrangement through the International Alliance Program (IAP);
5. City Council endorse George Brown College/LACAP to develop IwB program with Lota, Chile, such endorsement being for the purpose of helping George Brown College/LACAP in raising third party awareness and funding.

2010-11 Team
The interdisciplinary IwB team is made up of 8 to 15 post-graduate students from a wide variety of backgrounds in design, arts, science and business.

In addition to faculty from design, architecture, planning, construction and culture, the Institute will work with LACAP to generate a list of guest speakers that will engage students with Chilean cultural and artistic, architectural, geographical, economical, and historical educational tools broadening student’s knowledge of the region. LACAP will also serve as a liaison between IwB and the City of Lota as we begin to deal with the client interests and design needs towards a regional masterplan. IwB will also bring in other groups to contribute to different phases of this project.

Students, architects and other professionals will go to Lota to both learn about the needs and priorities needed in September/October and then to present a long-term master plan for the City in May/June.

Es probable en un comienzo asociar el programa deportivo de un centro comunitario con disciplinas establecidas dentro de la población, afortunadamente en este lugar podemos localizar espacios exteriores consolidados para el desarrollo de estas ya hace varios años.

Desafortunadamente para situaciones en este tipo de contextos, las necesidades demandadas son más básicas aun. Actualmente los niños afectados de manera directa por la catástrofe y actuales residentes de las Mediaguas, representan el grupo de mayor vulnerabilidad, que si bien dentro de la inocencia no perciben el problema de forma general. El comienzo del invierno pondrá en crisis su nueva forma de vida, ya que sus actuales viviendas no le otorgaran el espacio para actividades físicas, obligando a las familia a mantenerlos encerrados día a día, fomentando el sedentarismo, contagio de enfermedades o privacidad en el núcleo familiar, sin mencionar la inminente segregación del contacto con su comunidad.

Es esta situación de emergencia en la cual el proyecto se desarrolla. Su ubicación se estableció de forma paralela al actual CESFAM, ya que su participación consolidada ante la comunidad, presenta la oportunidad de reforzar esta asociación entre nuevos pobladores y vecinos.

La estrategia principal del proyecto consiste en invertir la mayor parte del presupuesto en la creación de un espacio cubierto, que otorgue una superficie para las actividades recreativas de los niños que son imposibles desarrollarlas al interior de las viviendas transitorias, circunstancia perfecta para proporcionar a su vez actividades de forma comunitaria e invirtiendo el presupuesto restante en la construcción especifica de un solo espacio cerrado que contendrá un programa básico para su desarrollo, y que será posible modificar o completar durante el tiempo, para concentrar el uso de distintas actividades comunitarias.

El resultado no solo responderá a las actividades que se generen de forma directa a través del valioso espacio para los niños en su actividad inmediata, el juego, sino que también es necesario hacer énfasis en lo poderoso que es la conformación de una organización comunitaria, ya que son sus familias y comunidad, las que se preocupan del bienestar de estos pero con un carácter a largo plazo.

The project's main strategy is to invest the bulk of the budget to create a covered space, creating a space for the children to carry out recreational activities that otherwise would be impossible to have inside the transitional housing. Somos un Grupo de Arquitectos y profesionales que estamos abocados a la reconstruccion de una radio comunitaria en la comunidad de Cumpeo y creemos firmemente que el reconstruir una radio no solo implica la reconstruccion de un medio de habitabilidad sino tambien de un medio de SOCIABILIDAD reflejado en la radio como instrumento.

La Radio Nueva Cumpeo, lleva mas de 6 años transmitiendo para toda la comunidad de Rio Claro y via Internet a todo el mundo via el portal Forocuidadano.cl.Conformada por una agrupacion de minusvalidos esta radio es el unico agente de difusion comunitaria con que cuenta este pueblo.

Esta radio resulto gravemente afectada por el terremoto, quedando totalmente destruidas sus instalaciones y sin la posibilidad de volver a transmitir de manera regular nuevamente. El proyecto pretende reconstruir las instalaciones de esta radio,buscando volver a levantar la red que quedo ausente y muda mientras se produjo el silencio radial tras el terremoto.Para nadie es desconocido que estas radios en el mundo rural son verdaderas INSTITUCIONES SOCIALES en cuanto son organos que articulan las comunicaciones y los lazos entre los vecinos, lo que las constituye directamente en infraestructuras de produccion social y cultural local. El reconstruir una radio comunitaria no es solo un bien material sino un bien a la RED SOCIAL entorno a ella. Por eso es que la porpuesta quiere ir un poco mas alla de la recosntruccion y plantea la creacion del proyecto como un AULA - RADIO de orden comunitario, donde la radio se trasnforma en un aula por medio de los diverzos intercambios de conocimiento y vivencias que se producen en el dia a dia,desde los recados que se dejan, hasta las ofertas de trabajo. Todas estas realidades seran ahora expuestas y compartidas en un lugar y una situacion, a esta situacion se le llamara AULA.

We are a group of architects and professionals involved in the reconstruction of a local radio from the Cumpeo Community. We believe that rebuilding a radio means not just rebuilding its headquarters but also its social role, being the radio its tool. The New Cumpeo Radio has been on the air for more than 6 years broadcasting for the community of Rio Claro and for the whole world via Internet in Forocuidadano.cl website.

Brought together by a group of disabled people, this radio is the only means of community broadcasting available to the village. The radio was seriously damaged by the earthquake and its facilities were completely destroyed being impossible to broadcast regularly again. The project aims at rebuilding the radio facilities seeking to put up the net that remained silent after the earthquake.

It's common knowledge that radios are true social institutions in rural areas. They articulate communications and create bounds between neighboring communities. They are therefore the infrastructure for local social and cultural production.
Building a community radio its not just about material goods but an improvement of the social net around it.

That is why the proposal goes a bit further and plans the creation of a community Classroom. The radio would turn into a classroom by means of knowledge exchange, everyday experiences, job offers. All those realities will be exposed and shared in this new space which we call CLASSROOM.

CANCHA FUTBOLITO "NUEVO AMANECER"

Se pretende construir en una placa de servicios de la comunidad de la población Nuevo Amanecer, una cancha de pasto sintético de primer nivel para el disfrute del sector.

En la población viven alrededor de 25.000 personas de estratos socio-economico bajo y situación vulnerable, en general las areas verdes y lugares de esparcimiento no cumplen como espacios para lo que fueron pensado, siendo siempre lugares trasteros y en mal estado, por otra parte la cancha que actualmente se tiene en comodato es de tierra y esta en pésimas condiciones.

A lo que se apunta es a generar un espacio deportivo de alta calidad, de modo de cambiar el paradigma de por el hecho de vivir en un lugar de bajos recursos, las soluciones que ahi se den sean de ese orden, por otro lado es el futbol el deporte por escepcion en lugares como este y en general en todo el pais, une diferentes estratos sociales y genera disciplina.

En la placa que antes se mencionaba donde estaría ubicada la cancha existe además actualmente la sede social que se ampliaria para albergar los camarines y palco, un jardín infantil y una casa estudio que acoje a jovenes en alto riezgo social para incertarlos en el sistema educativo estatal. La gobernación está apoyando la ampliación de casa estudio, la implementación de un telecentro y el mejoramiento de las areas verdes.

El proyecta busca ser sustentabe y sostenible de dos maneras, en primer lugar y para su implementacion se busca aunar el maximo de actores que aseguren su puesta en marcha es por esto que se ha contactado a FIELDGRASS (empresa de pasto sintetico) que aportarían con un porcentaje de los costos de pasto sintetico y materiales, ARIDOS MANUEL BRAVO que aportarian los aridos para drenajes y bases estabilizadas, Municipalidad de Linares que aportaría con maquinaria y tranporte de materiales, Los encargados de Casa Estudio representados en su director Dante Galgani están coordinando estas gestiones en conjunto con el arquitecto y la junta de vecinos.

En segundo lugar el costo de arriendo es en general elevado, por lo que a los lugareños se cobraria un porcentaje infimo y a los afuerinos un precio comercial de mdodo de sustentar y generar para otros proyectos.

El proyecto se llama NEKUL que significa correr ligero en mapudungun porque es la característica de los que juegan el Palín. El Palín es un juego de pelota similar al hockey, proveniente del pueblo Mapuche originario de Chile.
El proyecto consiste en construir una cancha de futbolito y una cancha de Palín en la caleta Coliumo, mejorando los servicios de la comunidad.

La idea es construir las canchas techadas para asegurar su uso en invierno que en esta zona es largo y lluvioso, por lo que la cubierta cobra importancia. De acuerdo a esto, la cancha de futbolito de 60m por 38m, es de pasto artificial para aminorar los costos de mantención que aumentan en los climas lluviosos y húmedos. La cancha de Palín mide 8m por 100m y el material con que ancestralmente se construían es la tierra. Estas canchas incluyen camarines y baños, junto con una especie de pequeña tienda comercial y el objetivo es que sea administrada por la Escuelita de Fútbol de Coliumo.

El objetivo de incluir los dos tipos de deporte radica en que el futbol es el deporte más popular globalmente, y, por otro lado, el Palín es el deporte local/regional de la zona sur del país que jugaban los pueblos mapuches. Es necesario integrar en la práctica las diferencias que existen entre los dos juegos: en el futbol se gana haciendo puntos en el terreno contrario y es jugado principalmente por hombres mientras que en el Palín se anotan puntos en el propio terreno, siendo un juego en que no se busca derrotar al otro si no que obtener logros y fue jugado tanto por hombres como por mujeres. Al integrar las dos canchas esta diferencia empieza a comprenderse y rescatarse del olvido que sufren los deportes originarios.

The project aims to build a Futsal or Indoor Soccer and a Palín court on the small Coliumo beach, improving the community services. The idea is to cover the courts so that they can be used all year long. The winter in this part of Chile is specially long and rainy, that is why the roof takes on such importance.

According to all that, the Futsal court, which measures 60 by 38 meters, would be made out of artificial grass to reduce the maintenance expenses that tend to be high on rainy, wet climates. The Palín court measures 8 meters wide by 100 meters long and the ancestral material used to build it was earth. Together with the courts we would include changing rooms and bathrooms as well as a small shop that would be run by the "Escuelita de Fútbol Coliumo".

Soccer is one of the most popular games globally while Palín is the local sport from the south of the country. The purpose of bringing them together is to integrate their differences. To win in Soccer you have to score on the opposite side of the court and its a game played mostly by men. Playing Palín you score on your one side of the court, being a game were you seek achievements rather than beating the opponent and its a game played by both man and women. In bringing the two courts together those differences start to be understood and its a way of rescuing the native sports from being forgoten.

IMPULSOR Y SEMILLERO DEPORTIVO - SOCIAL_ RECONSTRUCCION CLUB DE TENIS TOMÉ

CLUB DE TENIS TOME JUNTO A STUDIO2 + ARQUITECTOS

A un costado de una de las calles de mayor circulación de la comuna de Tome, tras una gran muralla, se encontraba una de las organizaciones deportivas con mayor tradición de la ciudad, el Club de Tenis Tome. Decimos se encontraba, ya que tras el terremoto del 27 de Febrero, la muralla cayó, dejando sin su cierre y muro perimetral al Club, pero dejando al descubierto una gran oportunidad de reconstrucción y fortalecimiento.

El Proyecto se basa en dos etapas de desarrollo de gran proyección. La primera se relaciona con la reconstrucción y remodelación de la infraestructura existente del Club, entregándole una imagen propia y reconocible por la comunidad fortaleciendo la memoria colectiva. La medida más inmediata es la reconstrucción del cierre y muro perimetral, entregándole un valor en el diseño y relación con su entorno inmediato y difusión visual del deporte. A partir del diseño de este elemento, también existe la intención de poder obtener algún aporte y apoyo de empresas ya que contaría con la posibilidad de exhibir publicidad.

Luego existe un proyecto de remodelación de las graderías, plataforma para los jueces y la construcción de un volumen en el segundo nivel de la administración y salón, el que podría ser arrendado como centro de eventos y así poder obtener los recursos para un mejor financiamiento del club.

En una segunda etapa, se pretenden desarrollar proyectos sectorizados ligados al club como ramas de difusión deportiva denominados "módulos semilleros de tenis", en distintos conjuntos habitacionales sociales del fondo solidario de vivienda, villas y poblaciones de los distintos sectores de la comuna que se encuentren bajo vulnerabilidad social, o lejanos a la práctica deportiva por carecer de espacios adecuados para ello. Estos Módulos Semilleras estarán relacionados directamente con el Club de tenis y sus actividades. Fortaleciendo, difundiendo, y enseñando la práctica deportiva, y en especial del tenis.

El terremoto del pasado 27 de Febrero provocó el derrumbe de la mitad de salón multiuso y de los baños de la sede. También se produjeron asentamientos en el terreno que provocaron fracturas en el radier. La cancha de futbol también sufrió daños en su cierre perimetral.

El proyecto considera:
- Reconstrucción de los espacios derrumbados, considerando un baño más amplio que sirva de camarín para la cancha de futbol.
- Reparación de los daños en radier y muros, y remodelación completa del edificio de la sede.
- Reparación de los daños del cierro perimetral de la cancha de futbol.
- Construcción de un muro de contención y graderías para la cancha de futbol.

Se ha considerado en el proyecto la factibilidad para ejecutar su construcción en etapas.

The Sports Club "Refugio" has an outdoors baby soccer court with artificial lightning and a building that hosts a multi-use hall, an office, toilets and a kitchen. The earthquake of Feb27 provoked the collapse of the toilets and half the hall. Different ground settlement provoked fractures on the foundations and the soccer court suffered damage on its edge wall.

The project consists of:
- reconstruction of the collapsed spaces, building a bigger bathroom which would be used as changing room for the soccer court.
- repairing of the foundations and wall damages and remodeling of the entire building.
- repairing of the soccer edge wall damages
- building of a new retaining wall and stands for the soccer court.

It has been taken into account the feasibility to carry out the construction in phases.

VECINOS EN ACCION

Comunactiva

Centro DE FORMACIÓN CIUDADANA: "VECINOS EN ACCION", Será un centro de actividades comunitarias basado en el apoyo al conocimiento cívico de los vecinos y amigos que acudan al recinto; que instruya en la manera de gestionar una ciudad más sustentable entre los vecinos. Se entenderá el término sustentable en base a aspectos integrales que ayuden a superar los efectos traumáticos post terremoto en comunas vulnerables.

Nos preocuparemos en términos sociales de reforzar el trabajo colectivo, fortaleciendo el sentido de pertenencia y búsqueda de objetivos comunes; en términos económicos apoyaremos el esfuerzo productivo de la microempresa y artesanos locales; y sobretodo ayudaremos en el mejoramiento de la calidad espacial, tanto de las viviendas como del barrio, difundiendo la forma ecológica de autoconstrucción, para reparar y re-construir los daños causados por el terremoto de febrero de 2010, en las viviendas de escasos recursos del sector.

El apoyo técnico será realizado por voluntarios de la red comunactiva: profesionales, estudiantes, universidades y lideres vecinales, que impartirán talleres, charlas y actividades culturales, que serán el soporte de para ayudar en la tarea colectiva de la reconstrucción.

El desarrollo Sustentable Local, fortalecerá la base social del área norte de Santiago, materia prima que permite un crecimiento, económico e integral de la población de estas comunas, que tienen menor acceso a las oportunidades formales de desarrollo (universidades centros de formación, centros activación mini-emprendimiento, etc).

La población de estas comunas, Conchalí, Independencia, Recoleta, tienen un gran potencial de ideas, y una tradición de actividades colectivas; por lo que esperamos ser la herramienta de apoyo para redescubrir esas energías y encauzarlas en fines comunes, acción que llena un vacío de gestión con la comunidad, que hoy no tiene la acogida necesaria en el gobierno local.

Las actividades serán: capacitaciones, apoyo técnico de profesionales, actividades culturales y artísticas para reforzar la identidad comunitaria.
La sustentabilidad económica del centro ser obtendrá a través un pequeño espacio comercial en el que se ofrecerán los productos artesanales de la comunidad.

Neighbors in action:

The citizen educational center "Vecinos en accion" will be a center for community activities . These will be based on giving support to civic knowledge to neighbors and friends that attend the center. It will educate in more sustainable ways of managing the city. The term sustainability will be understood based on aspects that will help overcome the traumatic post earthquake effects in vulnerable communities.

We will, in social terms, strengthen collective work and community bonds, seeking common objectives. In economic terms we will support the effort done by micro-enterprises and local artisans. But we will overall help improving the spatial quality of both houses and neighborhoods. We will spread the environmental friendly self-construction to repair and rebuild the damages originated by the earthquake in the poorest, resourceless houses of the area.

Volunteers from the community net will provide the technical support. Professionals, students, universities, neighborhood leaders, they will all take part in workshops, speeches and cultural activities that will be the support to help the collective rebuilding tasks.

The sustainable Local development will strengthen the social basis of the northern area of Santiago. It will allow the economic growth of the municipalities that have less access to development opportunities (university, education centers, mini-venture activation centers) The people of those municipalities Conchalí, Independencia and Recoleta have a great potential of ideas an a tradition of collective activities. For all that we hope to be the support tool to rediscover those energies and bring them together. This action would fill the emptiness that exists in the community management and that nowadays has no place in the local government.
The activities will be teaching and training with professional technical support and cultural and artistic activities to strengthen the community identity. The center will be financed through a small shop that will

Parque Costero, Club de Surf y Skate Park Punta de Lobos, Pichilemu.

Club de Surf Punta de Lobos

Parque costero Punta de Lobos, se emplaza en su mayor parte en un área de uso público. Esta área fue utilizada e intervenida antes del terremoto, por pescadores y recolectores artesanales, deportistas (Surfistas, skaters, entre otros), veraneantes (que triplican la población local), población permanente; de manera espontánea. Lo que resultó en daños en el paisaje, construcciones de baja calidad estética y constructiva, y con viviendas ilegales. El reciente maremoto, se llevó gran parte de estas intervenciones e infraestructuras, lo que si bien, dejó anegada una fuente de trabajo para varias personas, a su vez da la oportunidad de reconstruir esta zona, con un proyecto que integre de mejor manera a sus habitantes, que cuide la identidad local y el valioso ecosistema costero (Zona P2: Zona de protección de interés paisajístico), transformándose en un verdadero aporte a la comunidad local y potenciador de sus recursos, bajo criterios sustentables.

Es importante mencionar, que Punta de Lobos es considerada por muchos la capital del surf en Chile, donde se desarrollan anualmente campeonatos de nivel internacional , como el campeonato Quiksilver Big Wave Invitacional . Lo que a transformado Pichilemu en un centro turístico importante a nivel nacional, considerando que es el principal centro turístico de la VI Región.

El proyecto en su macroescala, considera un plan maestro para el área de bienes nacionales de Punta de Lobos, que incluye la restauración y reutilización del área. Dentro de la cual se desarrollarán las siguientes actividades e infraestructura relacionada: Pesca artesanal; Comercio (restaurant de cocina local, ferias artesanales); Servicios sanitarios; Actividades deportivas que contemplan: el Club de Surf y skate park; Y áreas para desarrollar actividades culturales, educativas, eventos deportivos, e infraestructura de playa.

Para la construcción de la infraestructura se consideran materiales locales, como la piedra laja, que se extrae del mismo lugar, y madera. También se usan técnicas constructiva locales, a construir con mano de obra local. Como los zócalos de piedra laja; Entramados de madera de varas de ecucaliptus (especie común en la zona por uso forestal), como pieles ventiladas para las construcciones; Y estructuras de madera.

Para el presente concurso, planteamos la reconstrucción del área deportiva del proyecto, el cuál también considera un gran espacio para el uso cultural, educativo y recreacional de la comunidad.

Este proyecto pretende a la vez ser un ejemplo para otros bordes costeros del país, considerando el potencial a nivel mundial de la costa chilena, caracterizada por sus fuertes vientos y grandes olas, constituyendo un escenario perfecto para el desarrollo de deportes náuticos y marítimos. Como también constituir reservas costeras que cuiden estos recursos y el ecosistema local para el uso de futuras generaciones.

Most of Coastal Park "Punta de Lobos" is located in a public area. This area was used and intervened before the earthquake by fisherman and artisan gatherers as well as surfers, skaters, tourists on summer holidays ( which triple the local population) and permanent population. The results of this spontaneous occupation damaged its landscape, with low aesthetics and construction quality buildings and illegal housing. The recent seaquake swept a big part of those interventions and infrastructure. On the one hand this has eliminated a work source for many people, on the other hand it gives an opportunity to rebuild the area. The project should better integrate its habitants, taking care of its local identity and valuable coastal ecosystem (Zone P2: Protected area of landscape interest) The area has the potential to be turned into a true input for the local community and its resources under sustainable criteria. Its important to note that Punta Lobos is considered by many to be the surfing capital of Chile. International championships like the Quiksilver Big Wave Invitacional are held there every year. All this has transformed Pichilemu into an important national tourist center being the main tourist center of the VI Región.

The project at a macro scale foresees a master plan for the national assets area of Punta Lobos which would include its restoration and reutilization. Within the area the following activities and infrastructure would be developed: artesian fishing, commerce (local kitchen restaurants, artisan fairs...), health services, Sports facilities like a Surf Club and a skate park as well as areas for cultural and educational activities, sport events and beach infrastructure.

For the construction of the infrastructure we have considered the "piedra de laja" (stone slab) which we find in the area and wood. We would also use local building techniques and manpower. Examples of those are the stone plinths, wooden structures or eucalyptus lattices (common specie in the area) used for construciton has a ventilated skin.

For this particular competition we propose the reconstruction of the sports part of the project. This includes as well a big space dedicated to cultural, educative and recreational purposes for the community.

This project wants to be an example for other coastal areas of the country. Considering the potential at a global scale of Chile's coast, with its strong winds and big waves, constituting a perfect scenario for maritime and water sports. As well as constituting coastal reservoirs that would take care of its resources and local ecosystems for future generations.

Reconstrucción y Mejoramiento de Infraestructura sede Club de Rayuela Independiente

Club de Rayuela Independiente - Tomé

La infraestructura del recinto del Club de Rayuela Independiente de Tomé consta de 2 canchas de lanzamiento de rayuela al aire libre, graderías para 120 personas, baños, y una edificación de 1 nivel que alberga un salón multiuso, cocina y sala de reuniones. El salón multiuso y la cocina se utilizan para realizar actividades sociales, en las cuales se recaudan fondos que sirven para costear la mantención del recinto y financiar en parte las actividades deportivas del club.

Debido al terremoto del 27 de Febrero de 2010, el recinto sufrió la destrucción completa de su muro perimetral y daños en su fachada principal.
El muro perimetral permitía controlar el acceso al recinto y resguardaba la actividad deportiva del ruido y el movimiento de la calle aledaña. Este resguardo es muy necesario en un deporte como la rayuela, que requiere una alta dosis de concentración por parte del jugador. Adicionalmente, el muro perimetral servía de soporte para la instalación temporal de una feria agropecuaria en la calle colindante.

El proyecto consiste en:

1- Re-construcción del muro perimetral, con las características arquitectónicas que permitan resguardar el correcto desarrollo de la actividad deportiva, dialogar formalmente con el entorno de arquitectura patrimonial y responder a su condición de configurador del espacio público inmediato, en su relación con la feria agropecuaria.

2- La reparación y mejoramiento de la fachada y del acceso principal al recinto, potenciando su imagen y su relación con el entorno del barrio patrimonial.

3- La habilitación de un espacio interior de esparcimiento equipado para picnic, aledaño a las canchas de lanzamiento, que sirva como complemento a la actividad deportiva y apoyo a las actividades sociales relacionadas con el financiamiento del Club.

Se ha considerado en el proyecto la posibilidad de su construcción por etapas.

The infrastructure of the Independent Rayuela Club of Tomé has two outdoors shooting courts, a stand for 120 people, toilets and a one storey building with a multi-use hall, kitchen and a meeting room. The hall and kitchen are used for social activities which serve has fund raising to help finance maintenance and part of the Clubs activities.

Due to the earthquake of February 27th, the compounds edge wall was completely destroyed. This wall allowed controlling the access and sheltered the inside activities from movement and noise. Rayuela players require high concentration therefore this shelter is extremely important. Moreover the wall was used as well as support for an agropecuarian temporary fair on the adjoining street.

The project consist of:

1- rebuilding the edge wall with the architectonic characteristics that will allow it to shelter the sport activities, dialog with it architecture patrimonial surroundings and respond to its public space setting condition in relation the the fair.

2- repair the facade and main entrance to the compound, improving its image and relation with its patrimonial neighboring surroundings.

3- setting up an indoor space for leisure with picnic facilities, adjacent to the courts has a complement to the sport activities and as a support of the social activities related with the Club fund raising.

It has been considered the possibility to build the project in stages.

Club Deportivo y Social Pelé y Coutinho

Econciencia y Green Machine

El centro comunitario “Club Deportivo y Social Pelé y Coutinho”, está ubicado en el corazón de la Villa Brasil, comuna de La Granja, Región Metropolitana. El proyecto consiste en generar un impacto e interacción positiva en la comunidad patrocinada, otorgándole beneficios redundantes que permitan, mediante el deporte y actividades afines, fortalecer sus relaciones interpersonales y el mejoramiento de la calidad de vida.

El club deportivo no sólo es el centro del deporte, además cumple la función clave en el desarrollo de las personas que están dentro de su radio de inclusión. En este caso, podríamos hablar de aproximadamente 3.500 hogares, y 1.086 alumnos de la Escuela Básica Claudio Matte (según la matrícula del año 2008), que colinda con el terreno del club.

La idea es generar la reconstrucción del Centro Deportivo y Comunitario con un diseño arquitectónico y tecnologías sustentables, por medio de fondos concursables e inversiones privadas, para luego mantenerse a través de campañas de reciclaje domiciliario, el arriendo de la cancha y la venta de insumos de un kiosco dispuesto en el lugar.

Todo esto permite la participación y toma de decisiones de la comunidad beneficiada, los vecinos de la comunidad deben ser los protagonistas. Se debe fomentar, motivar y ejercer activamente el derecho a participar. Desarrollando un proyecto de sensibilización y concientización con la comunidad y sus líderes, respecto de campañas para el reciclaje domiciliario, esencialmente de: cartridge y toner; fierro y metales; y plástico.

Para esto se dispondrá de un punto limpio en las dependencias del Centro Deportivo y Comunitario, para acopiar los materiales a reciclar por la comunidad. Luego serán retirados por las empresas recuperadoras, agrupadas en el Cluster de Reciclaje Econciencia en Comunas Ecológicas (CRECE).

Finalmente, toda la iniciativa se difundirá y a los colaboradores de ésta, informando en los medios de comunicación masivos, de nicho, comunitarios, y propios de Econciencia Comunicaciones Ltda., de los resultados, desarrollo y beneficios logrados.

The "Pele Sports and Social Club and Coutinho” community center , is located in the heart of the Villa Brazil, municipality of La Granja, Región Metropolitana. The project aims to generate a positive impact and interaction in the sponsored community by offering redundant benefits that allow, through sport and related activities, the strengthening of relationships and improve the quality of life.

The club is not only the sports center but also serves as the key to the development of the people who are within its radius of inclusion. In this case, we may speak of some 3,500 households, and 1,086 students Claudio Matte Elementary School (enrollment as of 2008), which borders the grounds of the club.

The idea is to generate the reconstruction of the Sports and Community Centre with an architectural design and sustainable technologies, through competitive grants and private investments, and then maintained through domestic recycling drives campaigns, including the lease of the stadium and the sale of inputs provided a kiosk on site.

This allows the participation and decision making of the beneficiaries (i.e., the community), the residents of the community should be the protagonists. It must encourage, motivate and actively exercise the right to participate. Developing a project to raise awareness with the community and its leaders for home recycling campaigns, essentially of toner cartridges, iron and metals, and plastic.

For this there will be a clean spot on the premises of the Sports and Community Centre, to collect materials for recycling by the community. They will then be removed by the specialized companies, grouped in the cluster “Econciencia Recycling in Ecological Communities (GROW)”.

Finally, the whole initiative will be disseminated to the various collaborators, reporting in the mass media, niche, community, and own Econciencia Communications Ltd., of results, development and benefits achieved.

Recosntruir Escuela Santa Rosa

Bio-reconstruyendo el sur de Chile

Reconstruir la Escuela Básica de la localidad de Santa Rosa, dañada severamente como consecuencia del terremoto. Para esto se utilizarán diseño, arquitectura y tecnologías sustentables que permitan hacer de ésta una construcción antisísmica, sin dejar de mantener su estilo característico de la zona. De este modo podrá transformarse en un modelo a imitar por otras comunidades. El proyecto será diseñado, construido y ejecutado con la participación integrada de la comunidad local en conjunto con los voluntarios de Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile, con apoyo profesional. Las escuela era el lugar donde estudiaban 20 niños. Ahora ellos están asistiendo a otras escuela más lejos de su casa, lo cual pone en peligro la asistencia.

Rebuilding the Elementary School Santa Rosa, seriously damaged as a consequence of the earthquake. For it, sustainable design, architecture and techniques will be used. The building will be designed with anti- earthquake structure, maintaining the characteristic style of the area. By doing so we aim to be a model to other communities. The project will be designed, build and carried out with the participation of local population together with a group of "Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile" volunteers and professional assistance. The school was attended by 20 children that now have to go further away to school. This endangers their school assistance.

Proyecto ecoescuela en escuela básica de Carreras Cortas

Formar una Ecoescuela en la Escuela Básica de Carreras Cortas.
Para esto se acondicionará la edificación ya existente de la escuela (aislamiento térmico del edificio, utilización de energías renovables, reforestación, implementación de jardines comestibles e invernadero, entre otros) y se integrará al currículum educativo actividades de enseñanza-aprendizaje orientadas a la eco-alfabetización de profesores, alumnos y apoderados. El objetivo es transformarla en un modelo de escuela orientada a la sustentabilidad que sea reproducible por otras comunidades. El proyecto será diseñado, construido y ejecutado con la participación integrada de la comunidad escolar en conjunto con los voluntarios de Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile, con apoyo profesional.

The project wants to create an Eco-School within the Elementary School of Carreras Cortas. To achieve that, the existing school building will be improved including thermal insulation, renewal energies, reforestation, implementation of food gardens and greenhouses among others. Eco-alphabetized education and training oriented activities for students and teachers will be added to the schools curriculum. The aim is to turn the school into a sustainable oriented model to be reproduced by other communities. The project will be designed, build and carried out with the participation of local population together with a group of "Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile" volunteers and professional assistance.

Proyecto reconstrucción Viviendas Carreras Cortas

Bio-reconstruyendo el sur de Chile.

Desarrollar un plan de largo plazo para la reconstrucción de viviendas definitivas en la localidad de Carreras Cortas, Comuna de Chanco, con una perspectiva de sustentabilidad (energías pasivas y renovables, baños secos, huertas intensivas e invernaderos, recolección de agua lluvia), utilizando materiales nobles, técnicas de construcción con estructura antisísmicas y rescatando el patrimonio cultural de esa zona.

El proyecto será diseñado, construido y ejecutado con la participación integrada de los pobladores locales en conjunto con los voluntarios de Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile, con apoyo profesional.

Este proyecto pretende demostrar que la comunidad tiene el potencial para reconstruirse a sí misma, lo que como consecuencia aumentará la confianza en los pobladores con respecto a sus propias capacidades. Se trata de un proceso de aprendizaje en acción que les permitirá adquirir experticia en la bio-construcción y será una oportunidad para revalidar los conocimientos y técnicas ya existentes en la comunidad.

Otro objetivo es que este proceso participativo sea un espacio de unión comunitaria, donde los lazos de la comunidad se fortalezcan para encontrar juntos soluciones a los problemas causados por el terremoto con una visión de sustentabilidad. Todo esto, con el objetivo de construir resiliencia en la comunidad y ser un modelo a replicar por otras localidades

Development of a long term plan for permanent housing reconstruction in Carreras Cortas and Chanco municipalities. Using sustainable criteria (passive and renewable energies, dry toilets, intensive orchards and greenhouses, rain water collection), using fine materials, anti earthquake building techniques and rescuing the area cultural heritage.

The project will be designed, build and carried out with the participation of local population together with a group of "Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile" volunteers and professional assistance. This project wants to prove that the community has the potential to rebuild itself. That will consequentially increase its people faith regarding their own capacities.

It will be a learning process in action that will allow them to acquire expertise on bio-construction and provide an opportunity to ratify the knowledge and techniques in the area.

Another goal is to unite the community through this participative process, strengthening its bounds and so helping find solutions to the problems originated by the earthquake with a sustainable point of view.

All that with the final aim of building resilience in the community and being a model to be reproduced by other communities.

Postulación Centro Demostrativo Carreras Cortas

Bio-reconstruyendo el sur de Chile.

Construir un Centro Demostrativo en la localidad de Carreras Cortas, con el objetivo de enseñar a la gente de ésta y de localidades aledañas, técnicas sustentables para la autoconstrucción de su localidad, tales como(autocostrucción antisismica con materiales nobles, energías y renovables, baños secos, huertas intensivas e invernaderos, recolección de agua lluvia entre otras).

El proyecto será diseñado, construido y ejecutado con la participación integrada de los pobladores en conjunto con los voluntarios de Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile, y apoyo profesional.

La formación de este Centro Demostrativo permitirá a un gran número de pobladores aprender técnicas que mejorarán su calidad de vida y resiliencia, siendo un espacio de unión comunitaria y de empoderamiento para la reconstrucción de su propio entorno.

A su vez, será una oportunidad para revalidar los conocimientos y técnicas ya existentes en la comunidad. Además del área de diseño y arquitectura de vivienda, este Centro Demostrativo ofrecerá un espacio de desarrollo de talleres del área psicosocial, emprendimiento, diseño permacultural para la autosustentabilidad y cuidado del medio ambiente. Este centro demostrativo servirá cómo apoyo de vivienda para los voluntarios de Bio-construyendo.

El objetivo a largo plazo es que el Centro Demostrativo de Carreras Cortas se vaya transformando en una universidad viviente, que sea un motor fundamental para el desarrollo sustentable de la comuna.

We aim to build a Demonstration Center in Carreras Cortas with the objective of teaching its people and neighboring villages sustainable, self-construction building techniques. Examples of those are: earthquake resistant construction-using fine materials-, renewable energies, dry toilets, intensive orchards and greenhouses, rain water collection among others.

The project will be designed, build and carried out with the participation of the local population together with a group of "Bio-reconstruyendo al Sur de Chile" volunteers and professional assistance. The creation of this Demonstration Center will allow a great number of villagers to learn techniques that will improve their life style and resilience. The Center will provide a space for environmental reconstruction empowerment and community unification. In turn, it will provide an opportunity to ratify the knowledge and techniques in the area.

Apart from the housing design and architecture areas the Demonstration Center will offer spaces for workshops on psycho-sociology and permaculture design for sustainability and environment care. This center will be used like housing support for the Bio-construyendo volunteers . The long term goal is turning the Demonstration Center into a living university being a fundamental engine for the municipality's sustainable development.

Plaza de Deportes Extremos de Paine

Club Deportivo Social Cultural y Deportes Extremos de Paine

El Proyecto se plantea como un espacio público integrador
de distintas disciplinas deportivas, resaltando la presencia de organizaciones juveniles de deportes extremos que actualmente habilitan improvisados y temporales espacios en la comuna.

Además, la propuesta busca consolidar la Plaza como lugar
de encuentro en toda la amplitud del concepto, incentivando la reunión de disciplinas deportivas variadas, habitantes de distintos niveles etarios, y diferentes actividades de ocio y recreación.

Entre las áreas planteadas se cuenta con Skate Park, Trial Park, BMX Park, Flat Land Park, Muro de Escalada, Circuitos con Máquinas Deportivas y Senderos de Corrida, Escenario y zonas de áreas y arborización.

The project is conceived as a public space integrating various sports, highlighting the presence of youth organizations of extreme sports that currently use improvised and temporary spaces in the area.

Moreover the proposal seeks to consolidate the "Plaza" has a meeting place in all the meanings of the term. It would incentivate the meeting of different sports, people from different ages, and leisure and recreational activities.

The areas proposed are: Skate Park, Trial Park, BMX Park, Flat Land Park, Climbing wall, Sports Circuits Machines and Running Paths, Scenario and green areas.
